Thoughtfully Matching Families with Their Perfect British Shorthair

Welcoming a kitten into your family is an exciting journey, and we believe it should begin with trust, open communication, and thoughtful planning. At Coastal Charm British Shorthairs, we produce only a limited number of carefully planned litters each year, allowing us to give every kitten the individualized care and attention they deserve.

Our adoption process is designed to ensure the best possible experience for both our kittens and the families who welcome them home.

✅ Step 1: Complete Our Adoption Application

Every journey begins with an application.

Our application helps us get to know you, your family, and what you're looking for in your future British Shorthair. There are no “right” or “wrong” answers—we simply want to ensure that every Coastal Charm kitten is matched with the right home.

The application also gives you an opportunity to tell us about your preferences, including:

  • Companion or breeding-quality kitten

  • Male or female

  • Color preferences

  • Previous pet experience

  • Other pets in the home

  • Lifestyle and household

✅ Step 2: Application Review & Approval

After reviewing your application, we'll contact you to answer questions, discuss our breeding program, and learn more about what you're looking for in your future kitten.

This conversation allows us to begin building a relationship long before kittens arrive.

✅ Step 3: Reserve Your Place

Once your application has been approved, you're welcome to reserve your place for one of our upcoming litters with a Reservation Deposit* via Zelle or Venmo.

Your Reservation Deposit:

  • Secures your priority selection order.

  • Reserves your place in our breeding program.

  • Allows us to thoughtfully plan future litters.

  • Is accepted throughout the year.

Please note that your Reservation Deposit secures your place in line—it does not reserve a specific kitten.

✅ Step 4: Planned Breeding & Pregnancy Updates

Once a breeding has taken place, families with Reservation Deposits receive updates throughout the pregnancy.

When pregnancy is confirmed, we'll share exciting news along the way, including expected due dates and important milestones.

✅ Step 5: Welcome to the Nursery

After kittens are born, you'll receive regular updates as they grow.

Throughout their first weeks, we'll share:

  • Birth announcements

  • Photos every other week

  • Growth updates

  • Personality observations

  • Developmental milestones

Watching your future kitten grow is one of the most rewarding parts of the journey

✅ Step 6: Choosing Your Kitten

When the kittens are old enough to evaluate, families will be invited to select their kitten in Reservation Deposit order. We are happy to accomodate kitten selection via in-person visits to our home or via video call.

While we'll always do our best to accommodate preferences for gender and color, our priority is making the best possible match based on temperament, personality, and family lifestyle.

✅ Step 7: Preparing for Homecoming

Before leaving Coastal Charm, every kitten receives:

  • ✔ Comprehensive veterinary examination

  • ✔ Two kitten vaccinations

  • ✔ Routine deworming

  • ✔ Health records

  • ✔ TICA Registration paperwork

  • ✔ Written health guarantee with a spay/neuter contract (unless otherwise agreed)

  • ✔ Trupanion Pet Insurance Go Home Offer (activation required, Terms & Conditions apply)

  • ✔ Go-home care guide

  • ✔ Starter food

  • ✔ Blanket with familiar scent

  • ✔ Toys

  • ✔ Lifetime breeder support

✅ Step 8: Homecoming Day

The day you've been waiting for!

We'll review everything you need to help your kitten settle comfortably into their new home, including feeding, litter recommendations, grooming, and transition tips.

Our goal is to make the move as smooth and stress-free as possible for both you and your kitten.

Kitten price minus reservation deposit is due in cash at pick-up.

If you are flying in, we are happy to meet at Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR) at no additional cost. Flight nanny options are also available upon request.

✅ Step 9: Welcome to the Coastal Charm Family

Bringing your kitten home isn't the end of our journey together—it's the beginning of a lifelong relationship. We love celebrating birthdays, receiving updates and photos, and watching our kittens grow into cherished family members. Whether you need advice, have questions, or simply want to share how your Coastal Charm kitten is doing, our door is always open.

*Reservation Deposit Policy

To ensure fairness for every family, we maintain a simple reservation system.

  • Reservation Deposits are accepted after application approval.

  • Reservation order is determined by the date your Reservation Deposit is received.

  • Reservation Deposits apply toward the purchase price of your kitten.

  • While we'll gladly note preferences for gender and color, specific colors and sexes cannot be guaranteed.

  • Reservation Deposits are non-refundable, but if the right kitten is not available from your selected litter, your Reservation Deposit may be transferred in full to a future Coastal Charm litter within two years from the date the deposit was received. Future kitten price is only guaranteed for one year; future litters from year two may be subject to typical cost of living and operational expense increases. Beyond two years, the deposit is forfeited to breeder unless otherwise agreed.

  • Breeding rights are considered separately and require an additional review and agreement.
