Welcome to Coastal Charm British Shorthairs! My name is Bernadette, and I'm passionate about raising healthy, beautiful British Shorthair companions that become cherished members of their families.

Located in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Coastal Charm was founded on a lifelong love of animals and a commitment to ethical, responsible breeding. Although British Shorthairs are the newest chapter in my breeding journey, they are built on more than 40 years of experience raising and caring for companion animals.

Throughout my years as a breeder, one principle has never changed: health, temperament, and lifelong support always come before anything else.

Every cat in our breeding program lives in our home as part of our family—not in an outdoor cattery or separate facilities. Our kittens are raised in a clean, enriching home environment where they receive daily handling, socialization, and plenty of love from the very beginning. My goal is to raise confident, affectionate British Shorthairs that transition easily into their new homes and become treasured family companions.

My background as a nurse has also shaped the way I approach breeding. Good health has always been my highest priority. Our breeding cats receive comprehensive veterinary care, routine preventive health programs, advanced genetic testing, and cardiac screening before becoming part of our breeding program. We carefully select breeding pairs based on health, temperament, structure, and genetic compatibility to give every kitten the healthiest possible start in life.

Every Coastal Charm kitten remains with us until they are developmentally ready to join their new family. Before going home, each kitten receives:

• A complete veterinary examination

• Age-appropriate vaccinations

• Routine deworming and preventive care

• Trupanion Pet Insurance Go Home Day Offer (activation required, Terms and Conditions apply)

• A written health guarantee

• Registration paperwork

• A go-home kit including familiar food, toys, and a blanket carrying the scent of mom and littermates to help ease the transition

Our cattery is FeLV/FIV clear. Our breeding cats are comprehensively DNA tested including PKD negative results, receive normal HCM echocardiograms, and are carefully selected to preserve the wonderful temperament, plush coats, and classic teddy-bear expression that make British Shorthairs so beloved around the world.
